Description
Creamy Tuna Pasta Bake – a beloved classic that everyone enjoys, made primarily with pantry staples!
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F (fan).
- Boil a large pan of water, add the rigatoni pasta, and cook for 10 minutes.
- While the pasta is cooking, melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the finely chopped onion and cook on low for 6-8 minutes until the onions are very soft.
- Increase the heat to medium and stir in the plain (all-purpose) flour. Cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually add the milk, using a whisk to stir it in (just stir, don’t whisk).
- Once all the milk is incorporated, continue to heat while stirring until the sauce thickens. Stir in 2/3 of the grated cheddar cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
- Drain the pasta and pour it into a 20x30 cm baking dish. Pour the white sauce over the pasta, then add the drained and flaked tuna, drained sweetcorn, and frozen peas.
- Mix everything together, then sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is golden brown. Top with chopped parsley before serving.

- Rigatoni pasta: 400 g (14 oz)
- Butter: 3 tablespoons
- Onion, peeled and finely chopped: 1 Plain (all-purpose)
- Flour: 40 g (1/3 cup)
- Milk: 600 ml (2 1/2 cups)
- Strong cheddar, grated: 250 g (2 1/2 packed cups)
- Salt: 1/4 teaspoon
- Pepper: 1/4 teaspoon
- Canned tuna (albacore tuna if possible), drained and flaked: 320 g (11 oz)
- Canned sweetcorn, drained: 330 g (11.5 oz) Frozen peas: 150 g (1 cup)
- Chopped parsley: to serve
